Studio 1219 Announces “Picasso Becomes You” McMorran Dates and Auditions!
Posted January 25, 2012
Studio 1219 will hold auditions for “Picasso Becomes You” at the Studio 7pm to 10pm Tuesday and Thursday, February 7 and 9, and 10am to 1pm Saturday, February 11. Director Lee-Perry Belleau is looking for adults and teens for speaking roles, performance art exhibits, and production crew. “Auditionees will be asked to read short passages from the script for the audition. For the production crew, many talents are required, such as carpenters, painters, sculptors, graphic artists, costumers, live art models and more. So, we’ll have a brief interview for them,” Belleau said.
The Studio has contracted with McMorran Place for the performance events at the theater. The student performances will be at 10am and 1pm on Friday, April 19 and last just over an hour. For the Saturday evening, April 20 public performance, there are three ticket times for the event start (for a timed, guided tour of the exhibits plus the performance) at 6:15pm, 6:45pm, 7:15pm. The Saturday event runs until approximately 9:30pm.
Picasso’s expansive career is resurrected through the lively stage presentation of “Picasso Becomes You,” a theatrical performance. It is preceded by special ‘live art’ exhibits created by St. Clair County artists. This unique presentation of Picasso’s work explores the ideas behind what makes art relevant or beautiful. “Picasso Becomes You” is a fundraiser for—and sponsored by—Studio 1219 of Port Huron, Michigan. Though the stage play is centered on Picasso’s cubist work, art exhibits on display in the lobbies and other areas will depict a variety of styles and span eight decades of Picasso’s career. These works include a three-quarter-size replica of Picasso’s world-renowned “Guernica” as well as a life size replica of his controversial “Les Demoiselles D’Avignon. “Picasso Becomes You” also features artwork from the Saginaw Art Museum (Saginaw, Michigan) including works from Calder, Dali, Indiana, Lichtenstein and others. Highlighted will be local pieces created by Marshall Fredericks and Alden Dow, two of Michigan’s most prominent artists.
“Picasso Becomes You” engages over 100 local artists in the project depicting many art forms as they recreate selections from Picasso’s expansive catalog of work.
