Studio 1219 and Bridges Partner for $6,000 in Art Prizes!

Studio 1219 and Bridges Church of Port Huron have forged a unique partnership to offer $6,000+ in cash prizes for “Inspired Art, 2012.” This new art contest will feature artists’ interpretation of the classic story: “Jonah and the Whale.” “We are so excited about this collaboration,” said Studio 1219’s Executive Director, Lee-Perry Belleau. “Artists of all media throughout the United States and Canada are invited to participate in interpreting this Biblical tale.”
Added Pastor Scott Babin of Bridges, “To kick off the new event, artists and the public are invited to “Inspiration Day,” where we will talk about the topic in a way to inspire artists in creating their own renditions for the contest.”
“Inspiration Day” is Saturday, October 15, 9-11:30am at Bridges, 1101 4th St, Port Huron MI 48060. Refreshments will also be served. To make sure there is room for everyone at Inspiration Day, artists and the public are encouraged to RSVP by calling Studio 1219 at (810) 984-ARTS (2787).
Awards:
First Prize $3,000
Second Prize $2,000
Third Prize $1,000
Additional prizes and awards to be announced later.
The prizes are cash leases for a two-year period. Winners’ art will be placed in public locations in, and around, St Clair County, Michigan, and returned to the artists at the end of lease. Additionally, all artists’ work juried into the show will have the opportunity to auction off their work.

Submission deadline is Feb 1, 2012.
Exhibit of entries runs April 10 ‐ May 19, 2012

BACKGROUND:
“Studio 1219 infuses the arts into everyday life.”
The Studio is a nonprofit arts incubator and gallery dedicated to empowering artists to make an economic impact in the region. The Studio is the largest public art facility in Michigan’s Thumb Region, offering over 8,000 square feet of total space. It features fine art galleries, a pottery studio, a gallery gift shop, solo artist’s gallery, spaces for small arts‐related businesses, and a classroom/open space for community functions, private parties, and meetings.
Studio 1219 opened its doors to the public in October of 2005. After being open 6 months, Studio 1219 received the “Coolest of Cool” award for being considered the best project of all 48 Cool Cities designations throughout the state of Michigan. Charged with nurturing artists and making the arts accessible to the community, Studio 1219 is the impetus for connecting arts and culture with economic growth in the Blue Water Area. Studio 1219 provides a physical link between the thumb region’s growing community of artists and the businesses of the region.
BRIDGES is a group of people from all walks of life who are being transformed by Jesus Christ. Every week, the folks of Bridges join together to worship God and to experience a relevant and powerful message, which teaches God’s truths from the Bible.
