Ginny Foster
Ginny Foster is a clay artist who specializes in hand built pieces. An artist of many accomplishments, interior design, metalwork, fabric art and photography. A graduate of Michigan State University – B.A, Wayne State University – B.F.A., a member of Golden Key Honor Society, Wayne State. She attended classes at St Clair Community College, Pewabic Pottery, Detroit, MI and various clay classes and workshops thoughout the country. Living in Arizona offered many opportunities for exposure to Native American pottery, ceramics from Mexico, and clay artists from other parts of the country. These influences can be seen in many of the artist’s work.
There is a great variety in Ginny’s work. High fire, low fire, glazed, unglazed, reduction and oxidation fired. Many pieces are experimental and original. Some are whimsical, others quite traditional. She creates many forms and sculptures. All incorporate her joy of working in clay.
The series of Elf houses have been a combination of imagination and creativity. What do elves do for fun? Do fairies like sleeping in houses or do they sleep in flowers? Do trolls like bright colors or do they favor pastels? All these questions can be answered by the artist who can create her own fantasy and reality. Creating this garden art is fun and meant to bring pleasure to those seeing them.
The “Puzzle Me” puzzles are a number of brightly colored pieces put together in an unconventional way. Don’t look for completed squares or rectangles. They may look incomplete and different than the expected results. Enjoy the playful style.
Ginny thanks Duane Collins who was her first instructor and mentor. He not only taught her a variety of skills but shared his love of clay and all the possibilities available to an artist.
The creative spirit is within everyone, the more you use it the better it flows.
